A Corvette Lover's Guide to Bowling Green, Kentucky
Bowling Green, Kentucky is to Corvettes what Detroit is to Motown — the undisputed center of the universe. Every Corvette since 1981 has rolled off the line at the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant. The National Corvette Museum sits right next door. And the town embraces its car culture with a passion that borders on religion.
If you're a Corvette enthusiast visiting Mammoth Cave (just 30 minutes away), this is your pilgrimage. Here's the complete guide.
The National Corvette Museum
Start here. The National Corvette Museum is 115,000 square feet of Corvette history, from the 1953 C1 to the 2025+ C8 ZR1X. Highlights include:
- The Sinkhole Exhibit — In February 2014, a 40-foot sinkhole opened under the museum's Skydome, swallowing eight Corvettes. Five were restored and are now displayed alongside the unrestored wreckage. It's the most dramatic thing in any car museum, period.
- The Performance Room — Every generation of Corvette, from C1 to C8, displayed in chronological order. Walk through 70+ years of engineering evolution.
- Corvette in Racing — IMSA and Le Mans race cars, including the C7.R that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in its class.
- The Design Studio — Concept sketches, clay models, and the design process behind America's sports car.
Hours: Mon-Sat 8am-5pm, Sun 8am-4pm. Admission: ~$17/adult, $9/kids 5-12.
